I LOVE this band, have been listening to them since around 1983 when I first heard Death Penalty. Even then you can tell there was a good bit of "tongue in cheek" to what they were doing...but they were so much FUN that it didn't matter.

Death Penalty (especially the song No Stayer) has been played so often by me, that I've gone through a couple different copies of the vinyl over the years.

Friends Of Hell is underrated. I didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me over the years. Just skip the song "music" and you'll be fine.

I love this photo I just found online...

In the photo, the guitarist is playing the same model guitar I have. J.D. Cronise (singer/guitarist for The Sword) also plays the same model.

1979 Gibson Explorer E2

The only difference is mine has the locking tremolo...

There's really only 2 actual albums.

Death Penalty - which is a classic
Friends Of Hell - which is "pretty damn good"

Then there's that new CD collection of rare and live tracks, most of which is pretty bad to be honest.

Their "reunion" CD was BS, it was just the guitarist with a new group of people...and it SUCKED.

BUT....

Death Penalty and Friends Of Hell are both worth owning.

The CD incarnations from the late 90's or whenever sound like ass compared to the original vinyl. I have LP rips that I listen to. (Same with the first 3 Trouble records, I listen to vinyl rips because I don't like the various CD masterings).
