Euclid "Heavy Equipment", CD reissue of little known classic hard rock psychedelic record originally released on the Flying Dutchman/Amsterdam label in 1970. The whole album boasts some pretty solid musicianship with pummeling drums, thundering bass and blazing guitars!

Jay Leavitt, Gary Leavitt, Ralph Mazotta (ex-Lazy Smoke) and Harold Perino Jr. (aka "Maris"), transformed into the hard psychedelic group Euclid, signed to Bob Thiele's Flying Dutchman subsidiary Amsterdam and were one of the few rock releases on either label (a notable exception being the rare Minx soundtrack by The Cyrkle).

Overall this is a very good album but the constant group vox on evey track gets to be a drag IMO and I'm not too fond of their voices. I give this album a B and is the only one Euclid released (to my knowledge). The first three tracks comprise one track.

Track Listing:

Shadows Of Life
On The Way
Bye Bye Baby
Gimme Some Lovin'
First Time Last Time
Lazy Livin'
97 Days
She's Gone
It's All Over Now

Okay, this is one seriously INTERESTING record. Leave it to Bob Thiele to pick these guys to record on his "mostly-jazz" label Flying Dutchman.

I just started listening to it, I'll post my impressions later. It's HEAVY...and psychedelic!

Yeah, I really like it a lot but as I said earlier the only thing that makes it a "B" in my opinion is the constant gang vox and their voices in general. But it is heavy for sure.

The vocals kind of remind me of The Moody Blues of all bands...so it's a little jarring with the heavy music behind it.

I would file this record under "interesting", I have the same feeling about that High Tide album Sea Shanties...it's "interesting", but I don't know if I'd go as far as to call it a success.

The oddest moment on Heavy Equipment is when they start with the riff from Foxey Lady and then continue with the most "un-funky" version of Gimme Some Lovin' imaginable.

I'll have to pull it out again and listen to it for a second opinion sometime in the future.

Gimme Some Lovin' is good musically b/c it's pummeling but the gang vox where they try to emulate the organ on the Spencer Davis Group version irritates the shit outta me!
