Not having Youtube access at work is going to make this thread a bit less entertaining for me. Sad

Okay, straying away from youtube, hopefully more of you guys can access via fileden.

Here's a killer version of John Coltrane's Naima, performed with much spirit and wild abandon by David Murray. Yes, it starts mellow...but stick with it!

Don't let the boogaloo vibe throw you off, this shit is HEAVY. Check out the Boss Tenor's solo on this thing...amazing.

Jungle Strut kicks ass, I was unaware of Gene Ammons doing it.

Yeah, I listened to em all too. I just don't want to post "I liked it" constantly. I sound crazy enough without repeating myself

there was a reason David Fathead Newman was in Ray Charles' band for decades...BAD MOFO.

This video he plays alto, he is just as fluent on Tenor, Soprano and Flute.

If you can find a good used copy of this anthology, grab it. It's all tracks from his Atlantic period and he selected the cuts.

It's out of print but I have seen used copies around for about $20.

There is also this awesome twofer:

Those are two of his best 70's albums (Lonely Avenue & Newmanism).

You also need his debut album, Ray Charles plays piano on it.

Honestly, his did very few bad recordings, his most recent albums from the 2000's were some of the best of his career. He passed away in 2010.
