I watched this the other night and was very pleasantly surprised. They managed to handle it intelligently, a good script, decent actors and some excellent suspense set pieces. Nice sense of pacing too, not hyperactive MTV quick cut crap, the director has the good sense to know that the only way to create tension, is to stretch out reality to an uncomfortable point before letting the scare loose.

Romero exec produced. One of the few remakes I've seen in recent years I can actually recommend.

The Crazies was Romero's followup to Night Of The Living Dead. It was a political statement about the violence being used against Vietnam War protesters. (fantasized into a "germ warfare makes people homicidal maniacs" storyline).

The original film concentrates on both sides of the story (military & townspeople), the remake sticks with the townspeople primarily.

I reallly like both films for different reasons.

Yeah I watched the original just the other night, after seeing the remake, it was pretty good if you understand the political point there making in the film. Both films end on a bad note for everyone, that's true of alot of George Romero's movies, in his films when shit happens, it's a slim chance anyone is getting out of it alive. But I agree that remake was just freakin' crazy, where the remake had me and my wife laughing our way through the movie, but I'd recommend anyone to check them both out.

I have yet to see the remake, but it looks pretty good. The original is one of my favorites though.

You'll like the remake better I'm pretty sure of it.

Since it focuses on the victims, I'm thinking I will.

I saw the "Crazies" remake last weekend, not sure if I've ever seen the original (I believe I may have but it was probably during the early 90s when I was drinking a lot of malt liquor while movie watching, so as a result there are a LOT of movies I've "seen" but don't remember seeing). Anyway, I thought it was a pretty cool action/horror flick.
