YES - it's a YES thread

Yes is one of those bands that I literally can't remember a time when I didn't listen to them. In other words, they've been basically a part of my entire life...I remember being a tiny kid and my Mother playing Starship Trooper on the stereo while I bounced around the house like an idiot. I still do the same thing when I hear that song....

...but seriously folks. Yes is a group that can be extremely satisfying or unbelievably frustrating...sometimes in the same song. But if you give them a serious listen there are incredible songs from all phases of their career. I'm listening to the self-titled debut (pictured above) right now and it sounds fresh and exciting to this day.

I agree with this sentiment, but I tend to agree more with the former rather than the latter. I like the weirdo Yes stuff the best like "Topographic Oceans", "Relayer" and "Drama" are my three favorites. Great great band.

Recently I've been stuck on "Close To The Edge", what a FANTASTIC record that is! Another album that I think is underrated is "Going For The One", there's some great shit on there.

Spec, I agree about Drama. I had never listened to that album prior to you mentioning it...I'm glad you did.

Drama gets a bad rap, but it's pretty solid to my fat ears.

I've always liked Tormato the best, there's some stuff they did during the 80's that are kinda meh to me but I probably need to revisit them.

They are one of those bands I go through "phases" with. Rush is another one. I won't listen to them for a few years, then all of a sudden I'll want to hear EVERYTHING!!!!!! Then the phase passes and I'll put them on the shelf again for awhile.

I need to get more familiar with the late 70's albums, I really don't know anything between Relayer and Drama.

I like Relayer and Drama, but like you said D, I go through phases with Yes and right now I'm not in the mood for them.

I've been jamming Yes non-stop for the past couple days, listened to most of the 70's albums. Somehow the majority of their catalog manages to remain fresh sounding no matter how much radio has played it through the years.

I got a copy of Going For The One, I had never owned that album before. Killer stuff.

I only have a few YES albums "Close To The Edge" and "Tales From The Topographic Ocean", which are fantastic albums. I also have the the Yes album in name only, 90215.

I'm jamming 90125 right now, I still consider it a Yes album, even if it was primarily Rabin/Anderson's side project.

Anybody familiar with Peter Banks' band The Flash? If so, how is it?

I have one of the lps(maybe all three, I think they have three) I'll have to look again and give them a fair spin.

I've just realized that Yes was to progressive rock, as Iron Maiden was to metal for me. They introduced me to this great new sound (new to me, of course) that I couldn't get enough of. I've listened to them so much (and prog in general) in the past 2 or 3 months, and they are definitely now one of my favorite bands. It's the same way I was when I discovered Iron Maiden; I just wanted to hear more, because the music intrigued me.

Looks like Benoit(respiratory failure) is out and some other guy is in......Jon Davison(from a Yes cover band and Glass Hammer)......... WTF!!!!!!

That's awesome. Yes is probably the most accessible of all prog bands, so they are a good gateway group to this music.

Currently reading a great and fast read on YES called 'YES Stories: Yes In Their Own Word' by Tim Morse, these guys have to have most convulated history when it comes to line up changes, with the coming and goings of various members.

Take a look at King Crimson's lineup history sometime...

That book sounds interesting, I'll try to keep an eye out for it.
