Chickenfoot III vs VH-A Different Kind Of Truth

I can't decide which album I like better, I've tried choosing at face value and by picking both apart but can't decide so which album do you like better? Which singer is better? Guitarist? Bassist? Drummer? Lyrics? Which album has more versatility in all aspects? If I break it down that way I think III gets the nod.

Alas I haven't heard any of the Chickenfoot albums all the way through. I just can't get into Hagar, this has been a recurring problem as long as I can remember.

At least I can listen to Van Halen again.

Van Halen is the better album. I like the Chickenfoot, but the VH is a damn good album!

I can't really vote, since the only Chickenfoot album I listened to was the debut. I remember it just sounding like a really crappy Van Hagar album. If they've improved since then, I might give the new one a listen.

Different Kind Of Truth, however, is a pretty good album. It's definitely nothing new, but it's fun while it lasts.

Also, related to the thread. Since I've been hearing "Tattoo" about 5 fucking times a day for the past 2 weeks, it's grown on me. Still one of the worst songs in their repertoire, but not unlistenable like I originally thought it to be.

I agree, DC, it grew on me as well and I like it. Clever lyrics.

I like Tattoo way more than I initially did. The pre-chorus part is obnoxiously catchy (even if the actual chorus is kind of lame), and the lyrics are cute. I hate the solo though, it's one of the most uninspired licks I've ever heard.

You pretty much echo my sentiments on this to a T dude. The other thing that really bothers me about it is the auto tune on Dave's voice and the more modern sounding production. It's got alot working against it, but it still manages to be an ok song. If they switched the solo and reworked the chorus it could be much better. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the album as a whole as well.

Chickenfoot III I still have yet to hear. There's nothing about that band in general that makes me want to check it out unfortunately.

I don't hear it elsewhere, it's used more as an effect on Tattoo.

I didn't think it'd be elsewhere, where exactly is it on "Tattoo"?

The new VH is far and away the better of the 2. The Chickenfoot album is ok, but it's not nearly as memorable as the Van Halen.

Also, the Van Halen album is very upbeat. Just like any VH album with Dave at the helm, it's a party and Dave's the emcee.

Chickenfoot seems to go back & forth from upbeat party tunes to more somber "what a fucked up world we're living in". The flow of the album is all over the place. One minute he's singing about racing to his girlfriend for a piece of ass, next song he's talking about people dying of cancer and losing their homes.
