My Mother had a couple of his albums when I was a kid, I probably heard Shankar prior to hearing The Beatles. Years later when I started listening to jazz and hearing people like Coltrane and Yusef Lateef weave in eastern tonalities during their modal improvisations it made me remember listening to those Shankar records as a kid.

I got into Ravi in the late '90s or so. I listen to him maybe 2 or 3 times a year but it's always enjoyable and cathartic. I'm a sucker for Middle Eastern music.
