Well, won't know what the hell is going on with the car until Monday when the shop opens. I usually have Monday's off, but of course this week I have a training class that is mandatory to attend...so now to figure out how the hell to get to work.

The bus only gets within 2 miles of work...and I would have to leave at 6:30am to get there by 9am. Ugh.

or...I could rent a car for $32 a day until it's fixed.

who the hell knows....

That sucks, dude. And public transportation blows.

The leases on both my vehicle and my wife's car recently ran-out, so we purchased both vehicles instead of buying something new. Both cars have been running without any problems whatsoever. Now that they are mine, it's only a matter of time before the engines blow-up.

The car is fixed and I can go pick it up in the morning. It was a broken ground wire somewhere that attaches to the engine block. Supposedly it took them 2 hours to find it...at least that's what the bill says...

$188 for a fucking ground wire. UGH.

I'm really startin' to hate my car. I drive a '99 Jeep Cherokee which is now closing in on the 120,000 mile mark (!!) so even though it's been a pretty sturdy vehicle I know deep down that it's only a matter of time before things start going horribly wrong with it left and right. I'd love to put a bomb under it and blow it up but I can't afford to replace it. (SIGH)

Anyway, I just put four new tires on that sumbitch a couple of weeks ago at a cost of nearly $500 -- that sucked, but the tires I had on there were so threadbare and overdue to be changed that for the last week or two I was driving on them (till I could save up the $$ for replacements) I was living in fear of a blowout. I called'em "Louis Gossett Jr. Tires" -- skinny, black and bald. Laughing

So the tires are fine, now a new (thankfully minor) thing has popped up. I'm drivin home from work about a week ago, I'm sitting at a red light and I hear "DING" - the little light came on the dash that sez "CHECK GAUGES." I take a look and the oil pressure gauge is showing zero. (!) I'm like "What the fuck? I just got my damn oil changed a week ago." So the red light changes, I step on the gas, and as soon as the car started moving the oil pressure gauge shoots right back up to where it should be. I stop at another red light a mile or so down the road, same thing. DING, pressure gauge drops to zero. As soon as I start moving again, DING, it shoots back up.

So I call my brother in law who's a mechanic and ask him what he thinks is up. He comes over to my house, he crawls underneath to see if I had an oil leak or something, and couldn't find anything. So then we get in the Jeep, and we drive around aimlessly for a good half hour waiting for the gauge to do its little trick again .... and of course, it doesn't. I hate when that happens. We shrugged our shoulders and went "well, OK, whatever," and all was well for a while after that. Then two or three days later on my way home from work, same deal. DING! Gauge goes down. DING! Gauge goes up! My bro in law had told me that if and when it happened again, to open the window and listen to the car for anything that sounded out of the ordinary. He sez "Obviously you're not running out of oil, cuz it would've happened ONE time and ONE time only, if you know what I mean. The engine would've started grinding and smoking and you would've just stopped dead." So here I am toolin' along, hanging my head out the fuckin' window in the freezing cold, listening to the car and I don't hear a damn thing that sounds weird or strange, just regular plain ol' car noises. So since everything else appears to be behaving normally, my bro-in-law's best guess is that the sensor in the engine that feeds info to the oil gauge is on the fritz. Which is not a major problem, but it is something I got to get taken care of soon cuz I have to take the car in for inspection shortly after the first of the year.

Not only that but it's pretty fuckin' distracting to be driving along and hearing that "DING! DING! DING!" noise every minute or so, like you're going up and down in an elevator.

At least the CD player (the most important part of the car) still works fine. What a Face

LOL. That's typical car stuff for ya. I used to own a VW Bug years ago...one morning I went to start it and saw a flash behind the speedometer. When I lifted the trunk lid I discovered that ALL the wiring in the dash had burnt up and fused itself into a massive pile of plastic and metal.

THAT took a lot of money to get fixed.

So I feel your pain.

Ouch! Yeah, my friend in high school had a '71 Mustang that did pretty much the same thing... he pushed in the cigarette lighter, there was a "BUZZ" sound, and all the lights on the dash went out. When he took it to get looked at, he was told that there had been an electrical short that caused a whole mess of wiring to just fuse into a big lump. It cost him biggy styley $$ to get that fixed.
After that he kept a big piece of white tape over the cigarette lighter button to remind himself (and warn everyone else) that it was not to be used under any circumstances!!

I drive an '04 Alero, got it brand new and one day after a good snowfall had melted there were a lot of mud ruts on the road and they froze over in the middle of the night. I was driving to work at 4 am and drove right into one b/c I couldn't see it and it fucked up all the plastic under the car and where the frond driver wheel is so I have to keep taping the bastard and then I had to disconnect my horn b/c it suddenly went off on its own volition and I couldn't stop it. I had to disconnect the battery & then the horn. What I really need is a fucking Duramax for all the dirt roads.

My car, my wife's car and the $ Runner all crapped out within a month of one another...I'll have to drive one of the wife's cars for a while and she's gonna borrow one of her parent's gazzillion cars for a bit.

When I was in college, I had a Ford Escort - damn thing was always breaking down!!!!! I learned A LOT about auto repair with that car. I got to the point where the only thing I couldn't do was the timing belt (didn't have the right tools). Let's see if I can remember the things that broke on it:

Carborator rebulit
Carb replaced
Timing belt X 3
Water pump X 2 (just out right replaced it the last time the timing belt went, since I was sure it would go next!)
Starter
Crank Shaft seal - leaked oil and took out a timing belt
Electrical problems - had to replace multiple parts

Of course, the basic "maintainence" - oil changes, way too may brake jobs for driving the piece of shit for 5 years, tires - damn thing ate through tires, even with alignments!!!!! Spark plugs, air filters, etc, etc.........

After that, I swore off american cars forever and have NEVER gone back!!!!!!! Next car was a Toyota pickup - never any problems. Sold it to my brother, which he drove to 200k miles (had 170k when he got it), he sold it.

I also sold the escort to my brother - the engine blew up on him, probably because of lack of oil changes. And the clutch started to slip right before the engine blew. At Ford, quality was NOT job one with that crappy car!!!!!

Fuckin' escort!!!!!! What a piece of shit!!!!!!!!

Thanks D.

Joker that was hilarious and besides I hate Fords. My car has a power pack so I can't even work on that. I think that's the problem with it now.

That's either a sensor or a leak in a vacuum line somewhere it sounds like, neither of which is a big deal. And the good ol' state of NJ did away with inspections in November dude, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I do not even have a car anymore due to so many money issues and my kids cost of medical expenses ( my twins maybe autistic, they are going to speech thearpy, etc) I did not have the money to fix the mini van so I had to sell it and now we all relay on public transportation.

I am not crying a river over it and I miss the convience of a car, but not the expense of fixing it, insurance, etc.

Anyway way worse things in life then not having a car, well enough of that sob story I am going back to my rock n roll

Actually 4, a 2009 GMC Sierra Crew Cab
2011 Malibu (Midnight Blue)
2011 Cruze (Black)
2012 GMC 2500 Duramax (Black)

In all honesty I really want the Sierra...I got so fed up with my other vehicles crapping out that I needed a new ride...
