So I just got Animals As Leaders S/T album and man it kicks ass! Pure eight-string madness!

I keep going back to this album and the Wave Of Babies single. That eight string guitar is kewl. There is a lot of versatility throughout and rhythmically and solo wise there is a lot of Satch influence at times. Eight string sweeping is insane!

I've been trying to tell you for how long now!!! 'Bout effin' time, D! Nah man in all seriousness this cat has ruined me for all other instrumental albums/guitarists (at least for a while). Like I said he did all the guitar parts himself on the S/T, he was also in a band called Reflux who released one album at least. It just pisses me off that it took a year and a half to even know this album existed.

There have been so many good releases this year (especially live recordings) that I'm way behind on my "need to check this out" stack.

I just picked up the West Coast Seattle Boy Hendrix set, so that's probably going to be keeping me busy for awhile. But I'll get this album asap.

That video is an 8-string electric guitar, not a bass.

Excellent playing!

It's almost like listening to a heavy version of Charlie Hunter (who also plays an 8-string guitar).

So the top 3 strings are bass strings and the bottom 5 are guitar strings. I have seen this setup before. Pretty talented guy. The fanned fret style has always interested me.

Anything more than four strings makes my head want to explode, all you guitar players are not right in the head, seriously everything ticks much too fast for my primitive brain, that's why I'll stick with the drums, two sticks and no strings, me like. Abasi is like a magician with a guitar, you watch and listen, and are like wow, that looks so easy, how the hell does he do that?

So in the last few months Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes teamed up with Eric Moore of Suicidal Tendencies and former Mars Volta wind instrumentalist Adrian Terraza and formed the band T.R.A.M.(obviously an acronym for all the members last names), sadly their June 28 release date has been postponed to an undetermined date. So check out T.R.A.M.-Lingua Franca when it does come out.

According to Metal Injection, Animals As Leaders has been announcing that their new album will be released in November at their recent shows. It also appears that the band are filming for the release of a DVD. There is no other info on the DVD besides that The Faceless guitarist Steve Jones has been on the road with band filming their performances.

I can understand why you guys are uninterested, most people don't like "all technical all the time" playing. I do at times but I wish Tosin and Javier had some soul and groove. I prefer that to technicality anyday.

I'm listening to it right now. I don't have access to most videos at work.

That riff that comes in around the 2:25 mark is INSANE. This tune is fairly lyrical, it's kind of like a tech=heavy variation on Pelican. I like it.

I like it to but it didn't grab me until about the 2:00 mark on the first listen. After that I liked it.
