| Even though I'm fairly new to the whole Porcupine Tree experience (less than a year), I've gotten to the point where there music seems to fit my state of mind better than any other band.
In Absentia (2003) is my favorite album of theirs (at this point) and I would have to say it's one of the greatest albums of the past decade. There are more truly memorable songs and melodies on this one record than most bands manage in a career. Is that boastful? Probably. Is is accurate? At least to me it is.
Songs like "The Sound of Muzak", "Gravity Eyelids", "Lips Of Ashes", "Blackest Eyes" & "Strip The soul" reach levels of complexity without ever sacrificing the song for chops...basically every so-called progressive band in the world needs to study this album.
Now,the description above could basically sum up about any album in their collection, but this one just seems to be on a plane far ABOVE what most groupls are capable of.

| I don't have this album yet, but I'm pretty sure I've heard some songs from it from the cdr comp that my brother-in-law hooked me up with. I may have even heard a song or 2 from it when I saw these guys live, but I just don't know the song titles. It's on my list of "gets" | |

| I really like Signify, but I think the band improved a great deal once Gavin joined. I do enjoy all their albums though, not a single one I haven't liked.
I guess my top 3 at this point would be:
1. In Absentia 2. Fear Of A Blank Planet 3. Stupid Dream

| Then I chose the right one to follow Futile, that has become one of my all-time fave EPs. | |

| What a coincidence...I have this album in work with me this week. Played it thru a few times yesterday with my big, comfy headphones on to drown out my co-workers babble. | |
