I'm sure everyone here likes the Doors but I gotta tell ya, I've rediscovered them over the last two years and it's been great. When I was a kid and up into my teens Morrison Hotel was my fave but after a near decade of almost completely ignoring them I fingd that Strange Days and The Soft Parade are my faves. Morrison as a vocalist didn't have much of a range but his influence is clearly seen in the likes of Glenn Danzig and Jeff Martin (Tea Party) and is a great singer nonetheless. I disagree with the people that say he was a genius (I feel that Robbie Krieger was a better lyricist). I even like the post-Morrison albums Other Voices & Full Circle.

I am huge Doors fan and I do think that Jim Morrison was a genius. The whole band was very important and while I do like alot of lyrics Robby Krieger wrote, IMO they are not as strong as Jim Morrison's, listen to the lyrics to 'The Soft Parade' "When the Music is Over' and 'Soul Kitchen', etc, and do not forget it was Jim Morrison himself that encouraged Robby Krieger to write more material.

I am huge Doors fan and I also a fan of the post Morrison albums 'Other Voices' and "full Circle" but these albums prove that Jim Morrison was not just simply a vocalist for The Doors

When I was a little kid there was a stack of 45's at my Grandmother's house, records left over from my Uncle and my Mother.

One of them was the 45 for "Hello, I Love You". I was running around the house singing that song when I was 3 years old. So, I've been listening to The Doors for a long time (that was 1973).

My two favorite albums are the bookends: The Doors & LA Woman. While I like all the other albums, those two pretty much nail it perfectly in my book. The Soft Parade was another sentimental favorite, I had my first copy of that record around the time I was 7.

When I think of The Doors, I don't "just" think of Morrison. They were a BAND, what makes them so unique is that combination of sounds and influences those 4 dudes brought to the table. Morrison is legendary, but it's the music he was a part of that's the real magic.

Very true the Doors where a band and in a few cities that The Doors where introduced as Jim Morrison and The Doors, Jim Morrison would refuse to perform til the band was introduced properly as simply The Doors

Only have a few records of theirs, so I'm not really a big fan, but I like em' quite a bit. They had such a unique combination of sounds, pleasantly psychedelic but also quite dark in some instances. Krieger is one of the best guitarists ever.

I've always liked how Ace Frehley ripped off the solo to "Five To One" for "Hotter Than Hell".

Never noticed that. Five To One is one of my favorite Doors tunes.
