I don't think they are that similar, sure, they are both skinny "geeks" but the comparison ends there.
No, I think it goes deeper then that, some of the mannerisms are pretty similar, right down to some of the inflection in his voice when he speaks. Not that it makes the film any less enjoyable though.

Jesse Eisenberg - Zombieland owes him a debt of gratitude for keeping it grounded
But he owes that debt to Michael Cera for stealing his schtick.
I think the same thing too. They both have similiar mannerisms. When I saw Jesse in Zombieland, I thought, "What, they couldn't get Michael Cera?" Both enjoyable actors though.

He was very different in The Social Network, so I'm thinking some of it was direction.
True, but Jesse has been that way in other movies I've seen him in. He tuned the "Cera-likeness" down in The Social Network.
Marlon Brando: A Street Car Named Desire On the Waterfront Juluis Ceaser The Godfather Last Tango in Paris and many other movies yes he did do a few dogs but he was interesting in those films IMO

Michael Cera has been doing TV for a long time, but Eisenberg has actually been doing films longer.
I first saw him in the independent film "The Squid & The Whale" in 2005 and that was 2 years prior to Superbad and Juno (which is what catapulted Cera to stardom).
