| I realized today that many of Carpenter's early films have seen remakes in recent years.
Halloween and Halloween II The Fog The Thing Assault On Precinct 13
I've also heard rumblings about a possible reboot of "Christine" as well.
There are two thoughts that come to mind.
1. Carpenter films from that era were groundbreaking and influenced countless followers.
2. The remakes are mostly unnecessary, flatering I'm sure, but none of those films listed really needed any "fixing".
However, we all know that in this day and age they are going to remake everything, it's inevitable. So it might as well be films that were pretty damn good in the first place.
The proposed update of "Escape From New York" has been shelved indefinitely, so this trend may stop depending on how "The Thing" does in the theaters (incidentally the only one of those remakes that I've enjoyed - although The Fog remake was kind of a neat variation in some ways)

| "The Thing" seems to be tanking so that's a good sign. | |

The original didn't do well in the theater either (it opened the same week as ET). The Thing came in number 3 for the week, so it could be worse. These movies tend to do better on DVD than in the theater anyway.

| I hope it tanks, because they were planning on "They Live" if this one did well.
I agree with both your points S.D.
