I'll post mine soon!

Funny you should put Forced entry on, at first I did not "get" that album when I listened to it for the first time, upon listening again its actually pretty badass. They were from seattle and used to come down and play shows in Portland with wehrmacht and spazztic blur in the late 80's.

Top 20 Thrash Albums Empty
PostSubject: Re: Top 20 Thrash Albums   Top 20 Thrash Albums I_icon_minitimeFri Mar 05, 2010 1:28 pm

Was just thinking about somethin ol' Enos mentioned elsewhere about most of the classic albums suck and nostalgia being the main factor in them being considered great, half agree and half disagree there. I'd been thinking about this for awhile, but attributed to most of metal in general, not just thrash. To stay on the ball here though, let's talk about some thrash. Granted, ever since the advent of the internet and creation of forums you've had plenty of ass head fan boys babbling on about how this was actually better than that and blah blah blah. Recently, theres been alot of "who should've really been in the big 4" bullshit going on, and the epitome of what REALLY got me to pondering this is the following statement you see at least one (if not more) varitation of in these threads: "TESTAMENT!@! they deserve to be there, they could definately take Slayer's spot, they're alot better then that poorly recorded noize!".

Huh? Did some radioactive freak ejaculate into the gene pool and fuck up everyone's rationality? Fucking TESTAMENT?! and over SLAYER of all bands?! There might be alot of dumbass fanboys out there, but I've seen that comment way more than should've EVER been written. There's a reason we used to call them Testasuck, and it was because they were a second tier clone with maybe a few good songs an album. Ok, so they knocked it out of the park with The Legacy, and The New Order was pretty damn good. Overall though, they sounded like a bunch of guys trying to play like Metallica who couldn't quite get their shit together long enough to make excellent albums, or at least bother to change their tone so they didn't SOUND the fucking same. "Souls Of Black" for example, Billy even sings like Hetfield on that one, and its got that damn dry production Justice had. Lost thrash classic? Better than South Of Heaven? Fuck you, and your mom. Which also brings to mind Anthrax's Among The Living. It's ok, it might've been their most popular, but it isn't their best, Joey sound's like an asshole on most of it, and alot of it isn't even that focused.

That expands far and wide though, whether it be Metal or other genres. The biggest recent offender though is (drum roll) fucking ANVIL. Again, two good albums, got by on the singer's attitude, and passed out of existence by the end of the 80's. Mucho personal respect for their drive and still hanging around despite all the personal problems and everything, and its great they finally got recognized. Really now though, they weren't that good, get over it.

Anyway rant over, thrash is still my favorite, but man theres alot of crap out there.

Damn, DC what a rant! But I will say that Among The Living is overrated IMO, it's the one I listen to the least when I wanna jam some Anthrax. I usually reach for Persistence Of Time or most of the time State Of Euphoria.

As far as my top 20, I'm gonna have to redo mine.

For sure. It's yet another genre that's killed by its fans.

Anyway, I'll try to make a list, not in any real order;

Voivod-Nothingface
Megadeth-So Far, So Good, So What
SOD-Speak English Or Die
Annihilator-Alice In Hell
Sepultura-Chaos AD
Nuclear Assault-Game Over/The Plague
Anthrax-Persistence Of Time
Blind Illusion-The Sane Asylum
Vio-lence: Eternal Nightmare
Viking-Man Of Straw
Dead And Bloated-You Don't
Acid Reign-Obnoxious
Overkill-Under The Influence
Atrophy-Violent By Nature
DRI-Thrash Zone
Possessed-Seven Churches (most people would say death metal, but in the 80's there wasn't much of a difference)
Metallica-Ride The Lightning
Accuser-Double Talk
Xentrix-For Whose Advantage
Slayer-Seasons In The Abyss

Yeah. I'm pretty lacking in the ways of thrash
