| I used to brush of Muse as they were marketed as just another sophisticated yet generic adolescent pop band (ie Thirty Seconds to Mars), but there was quite a bit of surprise when I visited their music. For one, the front man is vastly talented (although his vocals are a tad Thom Yorke emulation). Second, they actually craft some pretty kinetic songs with unpredictable results. There's a huge current of tension in what they write and it keeps me very engrossed. The mix is a bit too shiny (again the label seems to be mishandling these guys) but I'm still fascinated by the quality of their music. Thoughts? | |

| Muse get a very hesitant thumbs-up from me. I'm not crazy about them or any of their songs particularly, but it's clear that they're quite talented at their instruments and in their songwriting. They seem pretty prog influenced, and it's just nice to see that a band like that can still get on the radio these days. | |

| I've heard songs here and there, never an entire album.

| They are a little hit-or-miss for me.
I do promotional graphics for the arena I work in and a few years ago, these guys were scheduled to play. I had to look them up on YouTube to see what they looked and sounded like. The live show was pretty impressive and the music was better than expected.
Shortly afterwards, I picked up a few discs from a flea market dirt cheap, like a buck or 2 apiece. Some I liked better than others and it's something I have to be in the mood for.
When they rock, they do it pretty well. I don't care when the music turns more electronic/disco-y.
I'd recommend Absolution for anyone wanting to check them out. It's the most rocking album that I've heard from them in my limited experience. | |

| I've heard a couple tracks off of Absolution and I like the vibe. The biggest recognition the band gets is for their album Origin of Symmetry, which is an entertaining listen. It even happens to be a favorite of Rick Wakeman, who'd cited it as on of the most important prog albums of our time. Dunno if I'd go that far but it is really good. I'll have to hear more of Absolution. | |
