Is anyone familar with Daniel Johnston, Wesley Lewis or any of the other notable outsider muscians? I have been spinnnig Daniel Johnstons "hi how are you?" alot lately...ripping song writer. Daniel was a scizophrenic street musician that was known for recording music on a DAT machine with a broken guitar among other instruments.

I've heard Johnston before, but never really focused on it. However, this peaks my curiosity. Thanks for posting it.
Woody Guthrie man...he was an outsider for sure.

oops yeah thats who I meant! Wesley willis was definately alot more vulgar than most of the other dudes in the genre..haha.

I dont know what the text book term is or if there is one, but Its usually referred as the genre for lo fi music people that are bizzare, write dirty realism type of lyrics, etc that dosnt really fit into what would be played on the radio or even put on a label because it fits no music format really.
Like Daniel Johnston was a bi-polar guy that recorded all his shit out of his bedroom on a kids learning keyboard....theres no market for that..hahaha.

Sounds very interesting, actually...I like lo-fi indie rock stuff...I'll have to check it out.
