I've often wondered that myself, and I've been jamming a lot of Mahavishnu Orchestra and The Eleventh House. I prefer Mind Transplant over Spectrum but overall I think I prefer Cobham but ask me later and I might say Mouzon, who knows...

That's a toughie!!! I'm more familiar with Cobham(I've owned Spectrum for over 20 years), but Mouzon is pretty kick ass himself(I've only had Mind Transplant for a year or two).

They are actually quite different drummers (despite them both having some fusion/funk dates in their repertoire). Mouzon is more of of a jazz drummer from the Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Tony Williams kind of school. Cobham definitely has the jazz chops, but I find him more akin to rock/funk school of drumming, not that different from Idris Muhammad or Joseph Modelisti (The Meters).

Both amazing musicians with their own sound.

From this era my favorite jazz drummers are Jack DeJohnette, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones and Billy Higgins.
