Over the years I have asked may people this question and nobody remembers, as kids/teens me and my bros and sis used to watch this all the time. Haven't seen it since I was a young lad.

The picture looks really familar, but I've never seen that.

Well DC it should, it was definitely the precursor to the Power Rangers. There are a lot of similarities.

What series had the family of "rockets"? They would turn from people into rockets and fight monsters.

That was called The Space Giants, the original Japanese name was Ambassador Manga. They lived in a volcano.
