back when you could get hired on the spot at an interview and start work the next day.

Now you get the first interview, then wait a week for the second, then wait 2 weeks for a background check, then wait for a "training class" to start, then wait 2 weeks to get paid. 6 week hiring process is about average now...how are people supposed to eat for that 6 weeks?
