Neurosis

I'm sure most of us know who Neurosis is, but are there any fans? I was listening to Enemy Of The Sun and A Sun That Never Sets this weekend and was reminded of just what an amazing band this is.





The stuff is slow & ambient, sort of Post Metal but with a much grittier edge than, say, Pelican or something...dating back to the mid-80s, they also predate the genre. Like a dirty, abrasive Pink Floyd...even live they utilize the lights/screens to take the focus off of the individual members of the band and put it on the music...

A band I've always been curious about but never really delved into. What's your favorite?

A Sun That Never Sets is my favorite...it was the first one I ever heard. I got it when I first begain doing reviews for DigitalMetal.com years ago. It was on Relapse then, but they've reissued it on their own label Neurot Recordings now. They're a fascinating band, really.

They have a couple of offshoots too...Tribes Of Neurot is their less agressive side and Scott Kelly does solo albums...his stuff is like a stoned, dark Johnny Cash doing Pink Floyd songs...haha!

I have the Shrinebuilder album with Scott, but that's all I've heard so far.

I have not heard that yet...

I love Neurosis. Pain of Mind and Enemy Of The Sun are my two favorites. Awesome stuff.

It's an excellent record, but it still features them playing hardcore, which is why I think most current fans don't dig on it much.

Me too. I remember reading a article in terrorizer about them a long time ago.
