M.O.M. s post got me to thinking that I thought that I already had this as a thread, but I guess I didn't. We'll start off with these bands:

Premiata Forneria Marconi or PFM for short!
To me, this is the premier Italian prog band:

Impressioni di Settembre(1972):

Appena Un Po'(1972):

River Of Life(1973 - English version of Appena Un Po')

L'isola Di Niente(1974):

Four Holes In The Ground(1974 - English version of La Luna Nuova):

From Under(1975):

Jet Lag(1977):

Passpartù (Live)(1978):

Alphataurus is pretty cool, I've heard one of their albums on spotify.

Have you heard of Area, chew? They're really cool, highly aggressive, with a touch of jazz-fusion and some Beefheart/Zappa-esque stuff thrown in. Of course from Italy, too.

I'd link a video, but my computer's a hunk of shit and can't handle YouTube anymore.

That album is very beautiful. Their first album has a King Crimson vibe to it.

Also, I highly recommend Il Balletto di Bronzo. That album is VERY good!

This is a very nice(complex but mellow) late to the game album.

Locanda delle Fate: Forse Le Lucciole Non Si Amano Piu (1977)

Man.... I have not listened to my Italian Prog albums in a loooong time. Gonna have to remedy that!

I've noticed that a bunch of italian prog seems to be in the same vein as Trespass-era Genesis, just with some added flair (like being about a penguin, haha). But that's not necessarily a bad thing, as I think Trespass is a kick-ass album.

Oh and I listened to the Murple album you posted, and it's actually quite good.

If I remember correctly, Genesis was one of the first(if not the first) British Prog band to extensively tour Italy and they fell in love with them. I have read that they were a HUGE influence on the Italian Scene. PFM did cover some KC songs, I believe Pictures Of A City and 21st Century Schizoid Man early on in their career, also.

I pretty much like all of the Italian Prog bands that I have personally heard(It might be the Italian half of my heritage that draws me to them, LOL).
