Glad you dig Steely Dan. They are one of the few bands I've never gotten tired of, possibly because they don't sound like ANY other band on the planet, being completely unique doesn't happen very often in music.

How are they? I've seen a few of their albums on spotify.
They sound a good bit like Porcupine Tree's middle period (Signify, Lightbulb Sun, Stupid Dream). They also started out as a one man band who eventually built a full-size group. Mellower than PT, but very good songwriting.
I've just started exploring them, but so far I like the album "Tightly Unwound" the best.

One month later...
1. Opeth 2. Anathema 3. The Pineapple Thief 4. Storm Corrosion 5. Rush 6. Jimi Hendrix 7. Atomic Rooster 8. Steven Wilson 9. Ian Anderson 10. High On Fire
Only 1 band (High On Fire) that could be construed as strictly "metal" (Opeth is their own genre IMO). This is likely to become the norm for me, as metal keeps falling further down my list of music that moves me.

My Steely Dan obsession has died down a bit... although they're still the number one in the last month.
1. Steely Dan 2. Budgie 3. Sortilège 4. Opeth 5. The Doobie Brothers 6. Iron Maiden 7. Fifth Angel 8. maudlin of the Well 9. Golden Earring 10. Blue Öyster Cult
My metal listening habits have shot up the past coupla days, mainly due to my discovery of Sortilège and the French metal scene (that in turn inspired me to jam some Maiden and Fifth Angel etc).

I predict Porcupine Tree will jump back up to the top of my list for next month, I've been purposely avoiding them for awhile to "freshen things up", but now I've got the jones to listen to all their albums (both studio and live) again...I might even do it chronologically.

Good pick, the "Life Cycle" album is great!

From what I've heard of that one, it's very Watchtower influenced. I much prefer their later more prog-rock oriented releases.
You'd probably enjoy Sophisticated, DC. That album's more prog metal than prog rock, though not as thrashy as Life Cycle.

Changing it up again, top 15 artists of the past 3 months:
1. Rush 2. Porcupine Tree 3. Opeth 4. The Pineapple Thief 5. King Crimson 6. Anathema 7. Storm Corrosion 8. Steely Dan 9. High On Fire 10. Steven Wilson 11. Ian Anderson 12. Jimi Hendrix 13. Orange Goblin 14. Atomic Rooster 15. Thin Lizzy
One glaring problem with this list is that jazz artists never make the top because I listen to so many different artists that I don't really repeat the same ones often.
