LOST - Couldn't decide what to watch last night so I ended up revisiting the pilot episode of Lost. I'll be damned if it didn't suck me right back in, I'm liable to watch the entire series again...
Agreed. An instant classic that would easily make my top 10 series of all-time.
Yep, me too.... And I thought the ending fit the series well. Did you ever see the post-Lost short that was on the final season dvd set? didn't explain much, but was cool to see Hurley in charge and Ben as his little bitch.

Yeah, I saw the extra scene on the DVD set. The people that bitched about the ending of that series cracked me up. Audiences have no imagination these days, every little detail has to be explained or they are just too fucking stupid to grasp it. Lost was a throwback to the Twilight Zone way of storytelling, give the audience an interesting concept and let them make up their minds as to the meaning.

Guardians of the Galaxy - one of the best flicks of the summer. Stay for the post-credits scene, different than the Marvel usual "tease the next film/films", but funny none the less. Only people over 40 in the theater seemed to get the joke. Keith will love it when he sees it..........

I think I need to take a hiatus from SyFy z-movies after this past week... to drum up hype for the premiere of "Sharknado 2" (which, by the way, was hilariously fucking awesome), they were running marathons of their past shark flicks all week long ...After two Sharknados, a couple of Mega Sharks, and a bunch of random Ghost, Swamp, Dino, and Two Headed Sharks (plus a Sharktopus), I feel like a kid who eats ice cream until he pukes....hahaha

I watched Captain America: The First Avenger again this afternoon before coming to work. I love the period detail (Every bond you buy puts a bullet in your best guys gun!) and think it's a good movie. I really like Chris Evans, good actor.

I'm really happy this movie is blowing up the box office. Gunn's a creative director with a short but entertaining resume (yes, naysayers, I'm throwing his script for Tromeo & Juliet in there!) and this was a perfect match. I'm really itching to see this. I hear it is very much a space opera through and through, very reminiscent of the vintage types. Sweet!

Guardians of the Galaxy - Saw this in IMAX 3D at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Easily the most fun I've had at the theater this year, a good old fashioned comedic romp with state of the art visuals. Right off the bat, this is a great cast. Everybody nails it, Pratt & Saldana have great chemistry, as does Bradley Cooper & Vin Diesel in their motion capture performances, Cooper's voice is almost unrecognizable, he really creates a character. They have fun riffing through the endless stream of jokes, most of which land. The real surprise is Dave Bautista who puts in a wonderfully deadpan performance, he's one of the highlights. None of the villains are really memorable aside from Karen Gillan's pissed off blue assassin, she's an ass kicker but underutilized. Still, it's a small quibble considering how good the rest of the film is.
Gunn directs the film like a 12 year old with the most expensive train set in the world, it's a joy to watch his playful abandon. The film looks beautiful, thankfully going away from the modern dark, washed-out trend and instead splashing the screen with tons of color. I highly recommend seeing this in 3D. This is one of those movies I can see having great replay value.

Watched "Mama" last night. Better than I expected. The trailers made it seem like a pretty straight up ghost/vengeful spirit story, but it played out like a supernatural tragedy. My wife actually had tears in her eyes at the end, haha.

I thought you'd like it!!!! What did you think of the post-credits scene? I thought it fit perfectly with the tone of the film.

I understand now why only people 35 and over would get that joke, as I got up to leave the theater I heard a young kid ask "Who was that, Daddy?".
I loved the movie, it was almost a satire of itself while it was happening! Just a wonderful, playful tone and that's something sorely lacking these days outside of animated films.

One critic promoted the movie as "Star Wars rewritten by a 14-year-old Quentin Tarantino." I like the sound of that.

Anybody seen "Rubber," the art-house horror spoof about a killer tire? It was... irritating.

My son saw the "Rubber" listing on Netflix and thought it looked "hilarious," but I figured I'd better "pre screen" it to see if it was OK for him to watch (it isn't) ... it's not nearly as funny or interesting as the trailers would have you believe ...I felt like I was being trolled for 90 minutes...

I went to a double-feature of "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" and "Fantastic Voyage" at the New Beverly Cinema (owned by Tarantino) for my birthday. It was a blast to see these films on the big screen.
Great theater, only $8 ticket price for a double feature and you can get a medium popcorn & medium soda for $5. An economical night out at the movies.

It was great. Both films were shown in 35mm as well, which is a real rarity these days as most theaters have converted to digital projection.
A line from The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms I had forgotten about...
A radio announcer is talking about a ship captain reporting a sea monster and he says "He really needs to stop smoking that stuff...."

Saw the first half of Rage in Placid Lake per Shawn's recommendation. Hope to finish it tonight.
I have a confession to make: Pretty Little Liars. Yup, my wife got me into it. I thought Gossip Girl was an iffy show for a 34-year-old married dad to get caught up in, but this takes the cake. I'm hooked. Part of me feels like a freaking pedophile haha. There's no redeeming value at all in it, plot holes are numerous, characters act against logic (WHY DON'T THEY GO TO THE POLICE is frequently shouted at the screen), and the principles are...hot (at least they're older in real life). Someone please help me feel better about this show.
I bet Vampire Diaries is next lol.

I watch Vampire Diaries and don't feel the least bit guilty...and Nina Dobrev is one of the hottest girls on the planet. Makes not one bit of difference that she's young enough to be my daughter...she's over 18...

Okay smartass, watch this video and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Also, keep an eye on Joel McHale sitting to the left, at one point you can hear him say "This is awesome."
