It really is a spinoff of psychedelia as one can really tell on the 2nd song I posted and they both in turn have their roots in the Blues as does Stoner (IMHO) which is really noticable in the sigle note riffs. Either that or it just seems that way to my ears since the Blues is really based a lot on the pentatonic scale and a lot of Stoner riffs are "fragfments" of you will of said scale.

Yes, it is based in the blues with one notable exception.
Two songs that really paved the way for doom were "I Want You (She's So Heavy) released in late 1969 and the song "Black Sabbath" released in early 1970, both of those songs were based around the "tri-tone" from classical music. The supposed "devil's interval" is based off the chromatic scale and is the most common way to introduce dissonance into a composition. That's why the main riffs from both of those songs sound "evil".

Didn't really notice a difference in the Kansas example. The Van Halen example is obviously slower, but sounds no better or worse.
This is kinda silly considering all recordings are EQd and there are generally certain frequencies that sound "ugly" that almost always get reduced in a final mix. Somebody has too much time on their hands.

Picked this album up as a blind buy. The openening track is pretty cool! I go to RYM and they are called a cross between Kansas and Mother's Finest(I'm not familiar with them).
David Sancious plays on quite a few songs(including the above one).

Finally after years and years of trying to find out who sang this song, the name of it, etc. I finally sapped out...I have always dug the beat especially.
