Agreed; as entertaining as I find Gutter Ballet, these two smoke it out. I enjoy Hall of the Mountain King but the title track trumps everything else on that album such a huge margin that it almost feels...uneven, I guess? Streets is great if I'm in the mood for pomp x2 lol. And as I've always stated, Edge of Thorns is waaaay overrated.

| 24 Hours Ago is the best track on HOTMK, Beyond The Doors of the Dark is the second best, the title track is #3, Legions is #4. | |

| I recently bought the Reverend and Heretic reissues from Divebomb and Metal Edge (respectively) to complete my Metal Church collection, although I just realized I still need Vanderhoof and a couple more Presto Ballet. While the sets are packaged really well, the sound quality is abysmal, with the Reverend's compression cranked up to near-brickwall status, registering a DR score of 5-7 depending on the track (the original had an 11). The tracks are muddy and completely lacking in mids, it sounds like everything was run through solid state processors. The Heretic is marginally better, with the DR scoring at 7 or 8, but still pales in comparison with the original. Usually I try to bypass these things with reissues of OOP classics but I can't deny this pisses me off a bit, even to the point of offering a straight trade for those who have the original pressings. | |

| I bought a Dixie Chicks CD from the thrift store for a buck today. ....it's the one with their post-backlash song "Not Ready to Make Nice," and that is SUCH a great "fuck you" kinda song... | |

Not a Joel fan though really. I don't think ANYONE at HOM (or here) cares for Joel (or Springsteen) save for I lol. But yeah Mandrill is fun. That first album was a bit uneven but so fucking infectious. I played it twice in a row when I brought it home.

| Both Joel and Springsteen are talented, but neither is my particular cup o' joe most of the time. I like a few songs by each, never need to own any however.

I prefer their earlier work, and Springsteen way more than Joel. Billy can get a little obnoxious at times and lose focus. Springsteen has always been one of my heroes; his songwriting is poetry and his stage presence is hair-raising, plus his band was one of the tightest for popular music of the day. Yes, his voice is awful, but it adds to the charm I suppose (like Dylan and Jagger).

| I'm actually a big fan of Springsteen. I prefer his '70s material and I'm not much for his faux political stuff but I have all his albums. Darkness On The Edge Of Town is my fave. | |

| Weird thriftstore pickup:
Dead on Arrival -Alive and Kickin' (1995)
When I first saw the "DOA" on the cover I thought it was a disc by the long running Canadian punk rock band, but this is apparently an indie release by a local yokel NY/NJ area hard rock/metal band. I never heard of em but I recognized bass player Mike LePond's name from Symphony X, and they also give a shout out to Heathen's Rage (!!) in the thanks list, so I figured it was worth risking a buck on. Haven't had time to spin it yet though...
