I'm at work...AND I HATE IT!!!!!!

I hate it when you have a co-worker that steals customers away from you when your trying to help them. No joke man, There is this vamp that works with me that seriously buts-in and pushed me aside when I was trying to explain a product to this dude. The guy was just like what the fuck just happened there?

My boss is becoming more and more like Michael Scott everyday. And not in the "ha-ha funny" sorta way. More like the "inappropriate comments and mindless babbling" kinda way.

Well. Now I hate "not working" even more than working. LOL. Less than 4 days and I'm already bored out of my mind.

Hmmmm...I'm not a porn kinda guy but a friend had one on his iPod, I had to check it out, hehe.

Despite an extreme budget deficit in our County, I believe I managed to escape the axe for another fiscal year....so I'm happy to have a job right now, because looking for a new one REALLY sucks (sorry detuned!)

It's alright man, I knew there was a good chance I'd be looking for a job again this summer...that's the way contract positions work. Doesn't make it suck any less, but, I feel quite positive for once (that's REALLY odd for me), just have this fairly relaxed stance that it's all going to work out.

One thing about being a custodian is that you survive the fall out much like a cockroach.

Today sucked, everywhere.

Man you guys sure bitch a lot about work, man I love my job, the pay is wonderful, the people are just swell and my bosses are the most wonderful people in the world, I love my wonderful world of cleaning up other peoples bodily fluids, my life is grand!!

Yeah, it seems Monday is is fucking syndication for 5 days and then the weekend.

I've been off this entire past week, burning off my last week of leftover vacation time. So you'd think I'd be all "woo hoo! I haven't been at work!" ... however, that week has been spent cleaning house and getting it decorated for the Holidays, plus I've been putting up with my ADHD afflicted three year old for a week straight. At this point I'm about ready to pack my entire fuckin family into a box and ship'em to Antarctica. I actually want to go back to work where it's QUIET!!!

I'll spare you the details but I've given myself only a little while longer at my job before I decide to move on but I might not make it till then. The bosses are pissing me off and trying to rearrange our schedules all the while giving us twice as much work to do while our retirement rates increase and our checks decrease. I don't take shit from the bosses at work and it's at the point where I just walk or kick some ass Krav Maga style.

Just make sure you have some kind of backup plan first, being in a completely fucking broke situation like the one I'm in is not a very fun option.

I'm currently lookin for work too.. I'm not unemployed at the moment (at least, not yet) but in light of recent events 'round my house, I simply can't continue much longer with the company I'm at for the pittance I'm being paid. My wife has been out of work since '09, her benefits are about to run out, she has been unable to find a new gig (for a variety of reasons that I am not about to get into here) and we ain't gonna make it very far on just my so called "salary."

I work for a newspaper and as I'm sure everybody knows, that industry is in a MAJOR decline (advertising revenue has been in the toilet for quite a while now; therefore they haven't given anyone a raise in two years now, and I doubt one is in the cards for this year either) so it's obviously high time that I get the fuck out of there before the ship completely sinks. I probably should've started looking elsewhere years ago but unfortunately a combination of naivete, (misplaced) company loyalty and a general fear of the unknown kept me where I am.

So anyway, I've had my resume up on Monster.com and a couple of other job-hunting sites for about two weeks now... I'm applyin' to everything I see that I might be even remotely qualified for, but the problem is, I've been at my current job for so long (since the late 90s) that I don't really know how to DO anything else. I looked at my Monster "profile" this morning and it shows that I've had ONE "Employer View" so far, i.e. someone has looked over my resume. Only ONE? Fuckin' A, that's depressing. With my luck, it was MY employer and now they're going "So this guy's looking for work huh? What, we're not good enough for him? Fuck him, lay him off right now."

Thus far, no bites yet... not real ones anyway. I have been getting all kinds of SPAM e-mails, text messages and a few useless phone calls since I've posted my resume on those job sites. Within 24 hours of posting my resume on Monster, I got two phone calls and several e-mails from insurance companies I'd never heard of, wanting me to come in "for an immediate interview" for a job selling life insurance. They were all really pushy, which I didn't like ("Can you come in tomorrow? How about the next day? How about the day after that?") and I couldn't understand how they thought I'd be a good candidate since I have no sales experience and don't know anything about the insurance business either, so I Googled the names of these companies and they all seem to be Ponzi schemes/pyramid scams. Seems that if you go to one of their cattle call "interviews," first you have to lay out several hundred bucks (!!) out of your own pocket for their training course and to get "licensed," then they may or may not have a job for you after you finish "training." Oh yeah, that sounds like a dream gig.

I finally told one of these insurance geeks off a couple of days ago when they called me on my cell phone (at 9 o'clock at night no less!), the guy started giving me the now-standard jive about how they saw my resume on Monster.com and that their manager thought my "skill sets" were perfect for a position at their company. (By the way, who the Hell uses a term like "Skill Sets" unless they're reading from a script?) I sez "Um...I have no experience whatsoever in the insurance industry, and I have no sales experience either. So exactly what 'skills' do I have that match what you're looking for?" The guy got all flustered and ended the call rather quickly after that... hahahaha.

Shit. I have a feeling this is gonna be a long process. (SIGH) Why couldn't I have been born rich instead of fabulously handsome??

So what else can I say but... I wish everybody luck and I hope y'all do the same for me!!

I feel your pain my Brother. What is your current job title? Also, figure out how your current job duties would apply to different industries...then you can add that to either your resume or cover letter. Figure out what the same job is called in different industries and add that to your keyword search in Monster. Try to find specific accomplishments to list.

Careerbuilder is MUCH better by the way, my last 2 jobs I got were both from there. Make sure to post resumes on as many of these internet sites as you can.

also, don't forget about Craigslist, many small companies will list their available positions there. It's also a good resource for picking up short term, project type assignments.

Remember that I am a Recruiter and can you two with your resumes/etc

Joker - I work in the advertising department, I'm basically the sales staff's helper drone. The sales reps go out and sell ad space, I book their orders in the computer, keep track of their revenue throughout the week, then lay out dummies of the papers (several of them) for the editorial department. Occasionally I have to run the sales reps' commission reports, check lists, and do various other odds and ends, I keep their old orders on file and retrieve them if needed, etc.

I suppose that the sort of stuff I do could be translated into an office position in just about any kind of business/office - so I've been applying to real estate agencies, manufacturers, stuff like that. I'm not lookin to become a high powered executive or anything, just something that pays a little better (and keeps me better occupied) than what I have now.

On the other hand I've always been a frustrated writer (I love to write, I just have never been able to find a way to make it pay) so I've also taken a stab at some openings for copy writers, proofreaders, editors, shit like that. Unfortunately the odds of me getting something like that are slim to none cuz I don't have any 'real world' experience in that area. I just apply to those for the sheer hell of it.

I would really like to stay in the communications/mass media area but it's hard because it's pretty much all Internet, all the time nowadays (which is the reason my damn company's in so much trouble!) and I know nothing about Web programming, HTML coding, etc., etc., and pretty much that's all I see openings for in that area right now.

I don't even know what the hell "linkedin" is...??
